I am Homecare & Hospice for the patients I care for, who walk the path ahead of me.

During my residency, I was assigned many different patients, but one in particular affected my life in a way I could never have imagined.

I cared for this patient, a woman who was diagnosed with a form of leukemia, during my entire three years of residency and walked through the path of her illness with her until the time of her death. I had really connected with this patient and the feeling of loss I had after her death was something I had never experienced before. To me, those feelings illustrate what practicing in the specialty of Family Medicine is really about. We’re not just doctors, we’re advocates and we’re friends.

After I completed my residency in 1990, my family and I moved to Bolivar, Missouri where I was able to work to start up a hospice program for their community.

In 1991, we moved to Manhattan and in 1992 I was approached by the Executive Director of Homecare & Hospice about serving as their Medical Director. I agreed and have spent the last 23 years in that position.

The way I see it, we’re all terminal. We’re all going down the same path and I want to help others by using the gifts I’ve been given during the short time I have on this earth to walk it ahead of me in comfort and dignity. That my job, my motive, my responsibility.
